Age: 47 years old
Occupation: Police Officer
Employer: City of Oceanside

I’m 47 years old and have been a Police Officer for 25 years. I work for the Oceanside Police Department as beach resource Officer. I’ve been running and cycling since I was in high school. I have competed in several marathons, numerous half-marathons, a few Olympic distance triathlons, and three adventure races, including Primal Quest in 2009.

In 2013 I put together our first 8 person Race Across America team made up of Oceanside public safety personal. This year will be our third time competing in the RAAM. Race Across America is considered the “World’s Toughest Bicycle Race.” The race begins in Oceanside, CA and ends in Annapolis, MD.  The race is 3000 miles long, crosses 12 states, 88 counties and 350 communities and climb over 170,000 feet.   The mission of our team was to not only to have fun racing across America, but was to more importantly spread awareness and raise money for a charity.  This year we are working with Rady Children’s Hospital.

Fred Armijo

Fred Armijo is a returning member of Team Oceanside. He has been a police officer for the City of Oceanside since 1994. He was a lifeguard for four years in Oceanside before joining the Police Department. Fred has competed in numerous triathlons, including three Ironman California 70.3 races. He has been a member of the Police Department’s Baker to Vegas running team since 1995. Under the tutelage of Team Captain Steve Peppard, Fred has competed in two Southern California Ragnar Relays, including a second place overall finish in 2015.  Fred lives in Oceanside with his fabulous and super smart wife, Pamela, amazing and exuberant daughter, Kaitlyn, and super handsome and incredible son, Zachary. Fred is looking forward to his third Race Across America with Team Oceanside.

James Koch

Hi my name is James Koch. This will be my second time participating in RAAM. I have raced both road and mountain bikes for 25 years. I have been married to my awesome wife Brenna for the last 3 years. I am owner, operator of Pedal Right bike fit studio in Oceanside, and I also work for the City of Oceanside. This year is going to be super special to me because my Dad and two brothers will be on the team with me. My Dad, who is a great rider, introduced me to RAAM when I was five. He took me to the start in 1986, which was at that time in Long Beach. My dad and his friend Jeff rode the 15 miles of the race with me... I will never forget it… It has been a dream of my Dad's to be apart of this great race… That dream will come true in 2017!
